Canada Day at the RYC. The sail pass went off without issue and then all members returned for the festivities. There was boat decorating and people decorating competitions and a Canada Trivia quiz. Techie Toy won the boat decorating and Marjorie O’Neill won the people decorating. Tom and I won the trivia contest. Then it was on to the cake that was donated by Brenda Strauss. We enjoyed the people and the fly pass of the Snowbirds as they were prepping for Parliament Hill. The Canadian Coast Guard CCGS Mamilossa Hovercraft slowed down to respect the no wake zone, but still managed to move all of the temporary plank bridges. Members of the club and the new member Dwayne Millen (on duty) scrambled to grab all of the floating planks before they became dead heads. The rain over night and then off and on during the day caused the river to raise even higher. We were visited by some costumed lizards who came to the river for a photo opportunity. Then it was off to the fireworks. We were drenched by two different rain fronts on our way to the mooring we had arranged with another RYC member. RYC members cornered an area of the river. There was a rafting crew who had been in position and many joined in and rafted with them. We started a second row with other members behind us that stayed under the bridge to keep dry.
